Berlocq falls to Isner in bleak day for Argentine tennis stars

Federico Delbonis of Argentina returns the ball to Ryan Harrison of the USA during their match on day 4 of the Sony Open at Crandon Park Tennis Center on March 20, 2014 in Key Biscayne, Florida.
Donald Young came up big on home soil today in order to eliminate Carlos Berlocq in the first round of the Miami Masters tennis tournament, the United States native downing the Argentine in straight sets in a one-sided match.

Young, 77th in the ATP rankings, triumphed 6-2, 6-2 in Miami and will face compatriot John Isner in the next round.

Berlocq's reverse capped a disappointing day for tennis fans in Argentina, who saw a host of local favourites crash out of contention.

Azul native Federico Delbonis fell to Ryan Harrison (USA) also in straight sets, going down 6-2, 6-4. Guido Pella, of Bahia Blanca, fared little better against Jack Sock as he lost 6-3, 6-4 in another match that failed to reach three sets.

Women's participant Paula Ormaechea, meanwhile, could not repeat first-round victory and was defeated by the Czech Republic's Petra Kvitova, 6-3, 6-4.

The only Argentine representative left in the single's tournament is 125-ranked Horacio Zeballos, who will take on South Africa's Kevin Anderson tomorrow in the second round.
