Córdoba anti-union bill gets backlash
Both the pro- and the anti-government CGT umbrella unions yesterday staged a protest in Córdoba’s capital city against a bill supported by Governor José Manuel de la Sota’s administration that would limit their right to strike. After the protest, which included clashes with local police forces, lawmakers of the ruling Unión por Córdoba (UPC) agreed not to discuss the issue during yesterday’s session. “The bill will not reach the floor. That’s what we were promised. If there’s any attempt to move forward (with the project), another workers’ demonstration will stop it,” CGT representative Juan Monserrat told reporters. Gabriel Suárez, leader of the CGT “Rodríguez Peña” faction, said that any attempt to re-install the debate “will end in a province-wide strike.”
