Wrist injury forces Del Potro out in Miami

Juan Martín del Potro addresses the media after pulling out of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells Tennis Garden on March 9, 2014 in Indian Wells, California.
Argentine tennis No. 1 Juan Martín del Potro has announced that he will not play the upcoming Miami Masters 1000 tournament, after suffering once more pain from a recurring injury in his left wrist.

The complaint is the same which led the Tandil native to withdraw from last week's competition in Indian Wells.

"I trained with the idea of playing, but unfortunately I am still feeling pain in the wrist and I am not in competitive conditions to step onto a tennis court," Del Potro explained via his Facebook account.

"In the coming days I will visit my doctor to see how things will continue."

The World No. 8 was due to enter Miami in the second round, where he would have faced the winner of Azul native Federico Delbonis' clash with Ryan Harrison.

One consolation for the 'Tandil Tower' is that the injuries that have seen him fall from third to eighth in the rankings this year should not affect him too much in the upcoming tournament. Del Potro went out last year in the first round, to Tobias Kamke, meaning that he is defending a negligible number of ranking points in Miami.

Mónaco dumped out. Juan Mónaco lost today against Jeremy Chardy 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7/5), who will face 2nd seeded and former champion Novak Djokovic in the second round.
