Record-breaking Messi becomes Barca top scorer

Barcelona''s Argentinian forward Lionel Messi becomes the top scorer (370 goals) in the history of FC Barcelona.
Barcelona's Argentine ace Lionel Messi today became the Catalan club's highest-ever scorer, passing previous record-holder Paulino Alcantara with a superb hat-trick as the Blaugrana ran rampant against Osasuna.

The Rosario-born No. 10 started the game just one behind the historic Barcelona striker, but needed just 17 minutes to level the record with his side's opener. 17 minutes into the second half, and with Barcelona cruising, Messi hit again to take the title of top scorer with his 370th goal for the club.

Even with the record secured, La Pulga was still hungry for goals. He sealed his hat-trick just minutes from the end with a short-range finish, scoring his side's sixth in a destructive display.

Alexís Sández, Andrés Iniesta, Cristian Tello and Pedro also got onto the scoresheet for the team directed by Gerardo Martino, who blew away their rivals 7-0. The result keeps Barca in touch with Liga leaders Real Madrid, who lie four points ahead.

The coming weekend will see Messi and Barcelona travel to Madrid for the second instalment of El Clásico, with the Catalans needing a win to throw themselves back into the title fight.
