Leonas thrash Brazil in semis

SANTIAGO DE CHILE — Argentina women’s field hockey national team easily defeated Brazil 12-0 yesterday to reach the final of the Odesur Games.
The Leonas will play for the gold medal today against host country Chile, which beat Uruguay 5-1 in the other semifinal.
Argentina won with goals scored by Florencia Habif, Julia Gomes Fantasía, Carla Dupuy (4), Gabriela Ludueña, Giselle Juárez (3), Agustina Albertario and Sofía Cesanelli.
Carlos Retegui’s team continued unbeaten in the tournament. It had beaten Venezuela (14-0), Paraguay (8-0), Uruguay (3-1) and Chile (2-0).
Federico Bruno, in athletics,  and Agustina Apaza clinched gold medals for Argentina yesterday. Bruno won in the 1,500 metres with a time of 3m39s96, leaving local Iván López in second place and Rafael Rodríguez of Colombia in third. Apaza claimed the gold in mountain bike, with a time of 1h26m22s.
