BA City locals to send art present to Francis on papacy anniversary
Buenos Aires City neighbours will be having a say in the first anniversary of Pope Francis’ pontificate. Following an initiative by the Mauricio Macri administration, locals will be able to sign a tapestry that will be sent to the Argentine pontiff as a gift, showing images of City’s landmarks that will surely bring some nice memories to the head of the Catholic Church. “We pray for you,” the artistic piece will read.
The activity will be officially launched on Thursday at 6.30 pm in the Herminia Brumana square located in the neighbourhood of Flores, the same place where Argentina’s Jorge Mario Bergoglio used to play some football as a kid with friends.
The tapestry that will read “We pray for you” – recalling Francis’ own statements when he was elected as pope last year and he called Catholics to “pray” for him -, exhibits views of the San José de Flores Church, the Obelisk, the 21-24 shanty town also in the suburb of Flores and the BA City Cathedral as well as the images of the Desatanudos and Luján Virgins.
Following tomorrow’s presentation, people will be able to sign the work on Friday from 10-17 pm in the intersection of Roque Sáenz Peña and Florida streets in BA City.
The tapestry has been crated by artists Soledad Demaría, Magdalena Castilla Sastre, Inés Patrón Costas, Juan Danna, Luisa Quinterno and Laura Casella.
