Legislator Bodart seeks injunction against Subway fare rises

City lawmaker Alejandro Bodart today presented a new injunction before local justice, aiming to prevent the subway fare increasing this coming Friday from 3.50 pesos to 4.50 pesos.

The legislator, of the MST-New Left party, made his request before the Administrative and Taxation section of the Buenos Aires courts in an attempt to stall the rise, announced by the City government after having already been pushed back from a scheduled rollout on March 1.

A single trip on the underground service would increase 28.5 percent as a result of the hike, using the SUBE card; paper tickets, meanwhile, will be sold at 5 pesos.

Bodart described the level of subsidies received by private subway concession SBASE as "barbaric", adding that the service would be sustainable with a far of 1.50 pesos.

"This new increase will end up being a double fraud, on passengers and public funds," the politician slammed on making his presentation.
