Pope Francis gets Nobel Peace Prize nomination
A record 278 candidates, including 47 organizations, received nominations for the 2014 prize, said the Norwegian Nobel Institute's director, Geir Lundestad. The Argentine pontiff will mark the first anniversary of his papacy on March 13.
The same week that he sought to play down the public notion that he is a “superman” who will bring revolutionary reforms to the Roman Catholic Church, Oslo put forward his nomination to compete for the award that will be announced on December 10.
Along with Pope Francis, Russian president Vladimir Putin and former US National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden were also nominated.
