Soy production to hit 'absolute record'
President Kirchner forecasted a “record” soy production for 2014 set to reach "55 millon tones" as she sent a message to combative anti-government farmers: “We have earmarked 54 billion pesos in infrastructure for the agricultural sector.”
“Soy production will be absolutely record,” the head of state said while delivering her Saturday address in Parliament and pointed out that the “extension of the agricultural frontier has allowed to duplicate the 2013 harvest” reaching 105 million tones of grains compared to 2003.
Amid an ongoing criticism of the government’s agricultural policies by the Liaison Board - that staged a 108-day protest over export duties back in 2008 becoming a fierce enemy of the Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration-, the head of state explained that “54 billion pesos” have earmarked for infrastructure works in the sector and praised the “increase” of productive lands.
