Zamora appointed new provisional president of the Senate

The Senate today approved the nomination of former Santiago del Estero Governor Gerardo Zamora as the new provisional president of the Upper House, with 57 votes against 12. He will replace Tucumán Senator Beatriz Rojkés de Alperovich, who was sworn-in in 2011.

Gerardo Morales, the chief of the Radical bloc, which firmly opposed the decision, considered the government's move "an insult to the Radical Civic Union" and a way to "weaken the party system because it ends up weakening their own party which is the backbone of the Victory Front."
