Gov't backs Zamora as next Senate leader

Chief of Cabinet Jorge Capitanich today met with senators from the Victory Front in order to confirm "president Cristina Kirchner's desire" that Gerardo Zamora be designated as the new provisional president of the Upper House.

The decision was revealed by FpV sources at the end of the meeting, which would mean the former governor of Santiago del Estero taking over the role from Beatriz Rojkés de Alperovich.

Capitanich, meanwhile, declined to give declarations to the media after leaving the summit.

Government sources also informed that Victory Front senators lended their "total support" to the choice of Zamora, who last year stepped down as governor to take a Senate seat after being denied the opportunity of running for a third term by the Santiago Supreme Court.
