Vélez continue perfect start to Libertadores

Goals from Fernando Tobio and Lucas Pratto helped Vélez Sarsfield record a comfortable 2-0 victory this evening against Brazilian side Atletico Paranaense, marking their second consecutive triumph in the Copa Libertadores.

After a subdued beginning to the match, defender Tobio made the difference with 37 minutes gone when he turned in a corner for the home side.

Pratto further consolidated the Fortín lead in the second half. With 12 minutes remaining, a rapid Vélez counter-attack left the ball with Lucas Romero, who played a perfect pass into the box for the striker.

The ex-Boca and Tigre man did not hesitate, finishing coolly to assure his side all three points in Liniers.

With a perfect six points from their first two encounters, the side directed by José 'Turu' Flores lies at the top of the competition's Group 1, having downed Peruvians Universitario 1-0 in their opening fixture.
