Buenos Aires teachers' union predicts strike if pay dispute not solved

The teachers' trade union for Buenos Aires province, UDOCBA, has warned that strike action would be likely if the provincial government did not meet pay demands of a basic salary worth 6400 pesos a month.

"UDOCBA demands a dignified salary. 6400 pesos minimum wage. And we are prepared to strike for an undetermined period of time," secretary-general Miguel Ángel Díaz wrote on his twitter account.

"We will strike for an undetermined period until it is understood that you have to invest in education and pay teachers a dignified salary," Díaz underlined.

Buenos Aires teachers are scheduled to meet on Tuesday with provincial authorities in order to begin pay negotiations, one day after an expected increase from the national government to federally-employed educators.
