Diego denies comeback

Former footballer Diego Maradona affirmed today he won’t be signing with Argentine fifth tier team Deportivo Riestra, denying rumors that stated the 53 year-old icon would make a comeback in 2014.

“Only in dreams”, answered Diego when asked about the rumors.

“I never thought about it and never signed any contract. I don’t understand how this rumors spread”.

“I turned 53 and I don’t plan to play in ‘D Division’. Soon I will tell my plans for the future to the press”.

Maradona worked as “inspirational speaker” for Deportivo Riestra, a club owned by his friend and lawyer Victor Stinfale, for a couple of matches.

Diego’s last appearance in Argentine Football was in October 1997 when he played for Boca against River. Boca won the match 2-1 and Maradona was replaced during half-time by a young Juan Román Riquelme.
