Venezuelan beauty queen killed in protest, shot in the head

23-year-old Génesis Carmona was shot in the head while joining one of the protests that have plunged the Caribbean country into violence over the past days, Venezuelan media reported. Carmona, who won the 2013 Miss Tourism competition, died today after remaining hospitalized in a critical condition.

The Ansa news agency quoted the Venezuela’s Últimas Noticias daily which reported the attack against the beauty queen. According to the media reports, Carmona resulted injured along with other 4 who were protesting against the Nicolás Maduro administration when a group of bikers storm the demonstration and shot at the crowd.

Últimas Noticias also informed that the victims were “placed in an ambush” and that the “hooded attackers” were under “protection” of the Venezuelan National Guard. Carmona is the fifth person killed during the violent events.
