Argentine Tennis Association head wants Del Potro in Davis Cup

Juan Martín Del Potro
Argentine Tennis Association (AAT) president Arturo Grimaldi has underlined that his organisation will do everything they can to convince Juan Martín del Potro to play the Davis Cup, after the nation's No. 1 announced his withdrawal from the team for the rest of 2014.

"I am going to do everything in my power in order for Juan Martín to play, if I have to walk to Tandil, I will do it," Grimaldi stated in today's press conference, referencing Del Potro's hometown in the province of Buenos Aires.

"I have called him twice, I sent two emails and a text message, but I have not received a reply. I am not here to confront or create problems for Delpo. After his first letter, it is clear I did all I could to speak with him, but we were not answered," he explained.

The 'Tandil Tower' played his last Davis Cup match in the 2012 semi-finals, and after a period of cooling relations with the AAT announced yesterday that he would not be returning to the tournament this year.

The Argentine team lost to Italy in the Cup's first round, and will have to play off for their right to remain in the World Group.
