San Juan province locals start rebuilding their houses.

The federal government has launched an assistance program for the flood-struck provinces of Mendoza and San Juan, the cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich has announced. A housing plan to be coordinated between the national and provincial administration is also expected to be ready soon.

Addressing reporters at the Casa Rosada presidential palace this morning along with head of the ANSES social security agency Diego Bossio, the head of ministers said both officials will be part of a government mission that will be flying later this afternoon to San Juan and Mendoza where several districts have been severely affected by heavy rains and flood, forcing more than 10,000 people to be evacuated.

The Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration has already provided blankets and mattresses to assist the flood victims who will be also granted with the possibility of accessing the PROCREAR housing program with subsidized interest rates.

The ANSES will also double pensions and set a credit of 15,000 pesos with a 9.9-percent interest rate that pensioners will be able to a apply for using their Argenta credit card which is part of a government benefit plan for the elderly.
