‘A drug-producing country’
Defence Minister Agustín Rossi acknowledged yesterday that Argentina has gone from being a country that was a transit point for drugs to one that manufactures the illegal substances. “Argentina was a transit country, and now it’s a consumption country, and more seriously still is that it’s also one of production,” Rossi said yesterday. “I think that’s where we have to put all our intelligence effort.” Speaking to Rivadavia Radio, Rossi reiterated that the armed forces are forbidden by law from intervening in domestic security operations, noting he does not agree with those who advocate for the military’s involvement in fighting drug trafficking.
