Magical Messi spurs Barcelona comeback

Argentina captain Lionel Messi was on top form to send Barcelona back to the top of La Liga, hitting twice as the Blaugrana came from behind to defeat Sevilla 4-1 today.

Having gone down to Valencia in their last league clash, Gerardo Martino's men were rocked again when Alberto handed Sevilla an early lead. With Messi in the thick of the action, however, the Catalan giants found a way back into the game.

The No. 10 helped feed Alexis Sanchez to equalise the game for the visitors with 34 minutes on the clock. Just before half time, Messi struck with his own goal to put Barcelona in the ascendancy.

Barcelona encountered stiff resistance from the hosts, but Messi helped put the game beyond any doubt after 56 minutes. Beto was defeated for the second time by the Argentine's lethal left foot, and a late strike from Cesc Fabregas further widened the winning margin as Barcelona ran out comfortable winners.

With 57 points, Martino's charges lead second-placed Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid by virtue of goal difference.
