Boca Juniors visits Newell’s, River Plate hosts Gimnasia

Boca Juniors will have a tough start at the Final Tournament today when it visits Newell’s Old Boys in Rosario, while arch-rival River Plate will host Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata.

The Final Tournament began this weekend and Boca Juniors and River Plate will have their first tests for the points this year today.

Carlos Bianchi’s side will visit Newell’s Old Boys at the Marcelo Bielsa stadium at 6.15pm, while River will host Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata at the Monumental stadium in Núñez.

Boca, without its star and captain Juan Román Riquelme will have two of the three new signings this summer: Hernán Grana and Juan Forlín. Diego Perotti, the third one, was not included in the squad as the coaching staff thinks the player is not fully fit.

Meanwhile, Newell’s is still waiting for the permissions so it can use its top signing Ever Banega today. The Argentina international midfielder came from Valencia, but he is not available to play yet.

At the Monumental, River, coming from a positive pre-season, will play at home with its star and new signing Fernando Cavenaghi in attack. He will play alongside Colombia striker Teófilo Gutié-rrez.

In another game, Rosario Central visits Quilmes at 5pm.
