‘Argentina’s policy towards Malvinas is doomed to fail’, UK official says
UK’s State Minister for Latin America Hugo Swire said today that Argentina’s policy towards the Malvinas Islands is “doomed to fail” if the Government doesn’t take the islanders opinion into account.
“The people of the Falklands have a voice and the Argentine Government must hear it”, said Swire, who will visit the Malvinas next week, in a message to the islanders.
“It’s a shame that the Argentine Government keeps on making threats and denying Falklanders their right to self-determination”, Swire added.
Swire affirmed that the UK wants to “sit together with the Argentine Government” and discuss “a series of specific matters in relation to the southern Atlantic”, but only if these meeting “include the Government of the Falkland Islands”.
“We believe that cooperation between the three parts would bring enormous benefits to the region”, he concluded.
