Fire, collapse in Barracas factory: 9 dead, 7 injured

At least seven firefighters and two Civil Defense members who were working at the site of a fire this morning were killed after one of the walls of the building collapsed. Seven people were reported severely injured and taken to nearby hospitals.

A gigantic fire began this morning at Iron Mountain paper file factory situated in the neighbourhood of Barracas, in Buenos Aires City.

Firefighters, the Federal and Metropolitan police forces, Civil Defense forces and the SAME emergency service crew were working at the site of the tragedy.

Security Secretary Sergio Berni and the City’s Security Minister Guillermo Montenegro were visiting the scene of the fire. 

Later, City Security Minister Guillermo Montenegro revealed that a full investigation had been launched to determine how the collapse occurred, since "people with experience" in the Fire Brigade had information assuring that "the wall was secure."

The minister stated that data would be collected from the site, using, amongst other sources, images captured on camera.
