CFK to businesses: Stop lying to Argentine people

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner today launched a stinging attack on businesses that raised prices in the wake of January's devaluation, calling on empresarios to "Stop lying to the Argentine people".

The head of state, speaking at the announcement of a new rise in pensions and family plans, hit out against sectors who were not reliant on imported products, yet according to her try "to mechanically shift on the whole economy" recent falls in the peso's value.

Cristina urged businesses to "increase investment... to bet on something we have never had: the building of a bourgeosie with a national conscience."

"It is vital that instead of rushing money overseas, you start to reinvest in the nation."

CFK also recognised that Argentina faced challenges in her economic policy, and that it was "necessary to face those problems."

"One president alone, one minister, cannot do it, we need the collaboration of all Argentine people," she stated, while clarifying that the solution was not "austerity politics, but with politics of equality."
