DAIA chief reiterates Iran opposition after Timermán admits 'lack of progress'

Timermán (L) and Schlosser appear together at a meeting in 2013 with victims and family members of those killed in the 1994 AMIA bombing attack.
The president of the Delegation of Argentine-Israeli Associations (DAIA) Julio Schlosser has affirmed his support for Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman, who confessed in an interview that negotiations between Argentina and Iran over the AMIA bombing had made little headway.

"It is positive and crucial that the government recognises this because even though we have never put their intentions under a judicial spotlight, from day one we have said that [Tehran] is not an appropriate intermediary and it is from that point that we do not agree with the Truth Commission," the chief stated.

"The truth is in the [legal] docket."

Schlosser was referring to the declarations made by Timerman to Pagina 12, in which he admitted that there had been a lack of progress in applying the memorandum signed by the governments of Argentina and Iran back in 2012 in order to go forward with the investigation of 1994's AMIA attack, which claimed the lives of 85 people.

"It is true, but let us begin by saying something very important: the memorandum is a step forward," the minister explained, leading Schlosser to affirm that "he has only managed to prove us right about everything we have maintained for the past year."

"The attack occurred 20 years ago and Iran has not worked on the case, either before nor after [the Tehran agreement], because even with a change of government there was no regime change," the DAIA head fired, while confriming his support for the case brought by prosecutor Alberto Nisman.
