T4000 driver dies minutes after race

Motor racing driver Fabián Lana passed away today in a Mar de Ajó hospital, due to a heart attack suffered minutes after participating in the final of the Turismo 4000 Argentino series that took place in the coastal city.

Lana collapsed in his box and, despite being treated immediately by medics, died soon after being moved to the emergency unit of a local health centre.

Martín Fernández, the race doctor, revealed that he had been notified of Lana's collapse by members of the driver's team as he visited each box.

"Once the race was over we went to see how each driver was doing. I was then called and informed that a driver had collapsed and was on the floor. He was in very bad shape. We gave him oxygen in a complicated procedure while we sent him from one ambulance to another," the medic explained.

"We were in contact with the doctors at the city hospital. They tried to revive him, but he passed away."

In spite of the tragedy which marred the first meeting of 2014 in Mar de Ajó's  Rotonda Autodrome, the race schedule is predicted to continue as planned.
