River and Boca play last Superderby in Mendoza tonight

Ramón Díaz said that striker Fernando Cavenaghi will be included River Plate’s first team for the last Superderby of the summer tonight when the team faces Boca Juniors in Mendoza.

River Plate coach, Ramón Díaz, confirmed yesterday that Fernando Cavenaghi will be part of the first team that will play against Boca Juniors tonight in Mendoza.

Díaz said that Cavenaghi, who on Wednesday played the whole match against San Lorenzo in Salta, “is our idol. He needs to play and is fit to play two matches in a row.”

Cavenaghi returned to River this summer after leaving Pachuca of Mexico. He was a key player when the team from Núñez was promoted to the First Division in 2012 after winning the National B Division title.

“He is a key player in the position he plays, he has class,” added the coach in a press conference after the last training session before the squad travelled to Mendoza. “Both teams have pressure. We know that they want to win due to the defeat they suffered last Saturday, and we want to keep growing. We have some things we have to improve because the tournament is about to start.”

River and Boca played two summer friendlies. The first one was in Mar del Plata, where they drew 1-1, while the second was in Salta, where River won 2-0 with goals by Manuel Lanzini and Juan Carlos Menseguez.

Yesterday, defender Bruno Urribarri, who left Colón, signed his contract and became River’s second signing.

Boca Juniors coach, Carlos Bianchi, said yesterday that Agustín Orión and Daniel “Cata” Díaz will reappear in the first team for their match against River and added that “there can be other changes.”

Bianchi said that on Saturday the team failed to find goals, although it had the chances.

“I don’t hide. I know that we are in debt for that. Our players have attitude, although some teams with less level of play are more efficient and get the victory,” said Bianchi.

Talking about Juan Román Riquelme’s return, the coach said that “the day when Román tells me that he is ready to play, he will play.”

River’s team for tonight’s Superderby will be: Marcelo Barovero; Gabriel Mercado, Jonatan Maidana and Éder Álvarez Balanta; Carlos Carbonero, Leonardo Ponzio, Matías Kranevitter and Leonel Vangioni; Lanzini; Cavenaghi and Teófilo Gutiérrez.

Boca’s probable team will be: Orión; Hernán Grana, “Cata” Díaz, Juan Forlín and Nahuel Zárate; Pablo Ledesma and Fernando Gago; Juan Manuel Martínez, Luciano Acosta and Juan Sánchez Miño; Emmanuel Gigliotti.
