NY Times editorial criticises CFK's policies
In an article published by the editorial board of the New York Times, the newspaper asserts that “Argentina needs to do a lot more to address inflation,” and criticises President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration for “picking unnecessary fights with private businesses and investors.”
After opening the piece recalling the massive debt default of 2001, the editorial titled "Argentina on the Brink" considers that the country is once more “facing a financial crisis”, blaming “misguided government policies.”
The editorial states that Fernández de Kirchner has “squandered the recovery in recent years by increasing spending on wasteful subsides and financing the government partly by printing pesos”, while recognising that “some small steps to correct past mistakes” have been taken by government officials.
The piece concludes that “Mrs Kirchner will have to take much bolder steps to repair the damage.”
