One person was killed and around 40 injured when a coach on the way to the coastal resort of Villa Gesell overturned on Highway 2, near the La Plata neighbourhood of Olmos.

Police sources have revealed that the fatal crash involved a vehicle from the Álvarez Hermanos company, and occurred around 2.30am. The journey was marked by heavy rain, due to storms that hit Buenos Aires province yesterday evening continuing into the morning.

A wpman of 50 years of age, whose identity is yet to be released, was the sole fatal victim of the accident.

According to sources the coach, which left Retiro station yesterday evening, lost control of the road on a bend and overturned. Passengers later commented that the driver, who has been held in custody, was "travelling fast."

"Based on what the other passengers were saying [the driver] was going too fast," said Federico, who was onboard and in the bathroom at the time of the collision.

"I was stuck for almost 10 minutes until all the people had left. After, we were outside over an hour in the rain until we were answered," he commented.
