Heat Index in Buenos Aires reaches 46.8°C

The Heat Index in the City of Buenos Aires today reached a suffocating 46.8°C, while the National Meteorological Service (SMN) repeated their warning for intense storms later in the afternoon.

The thermometer in the Capital and surrounding areas recorded temperatures of 35.6° at 2pm, but elevated levels of humidity caused the heat index to register highs more than 10° above the official temperature.

Later in the day, according to the SMN, heavy storms, with a massive quantity of rain and possible hail were predicted in the area.

In Mendoza, meanwhile, the heat has had deadly consequences. In the previous week four people, all senior citizens, lost their lives as a result of a heat wave in which temperatures reached 40°C.
