Ardiles and Villa injured in accident during Malvinas visit

Former Argentina internationals and legends of English club Tottenham Hotspur, Osvaldo Ardiles and Ricardo Villa, have been injured in a traffic accident during a visit to the Malvinas Islands.

Although Ardiles remains in hospital receiving treatment for injuries sustained, the pair are both said to be out of danger, according to reports released today.

"I understand that he is ok, although he spent the night in hospital where he had to have 20 stitches in his head," explained Pablo Ardiles, 'Ossie's' son. The accident occurred while the pair were recording a documentary for the BBC.

Pablo added that he was unaware of the details of the accidents, but that he believes that his father was at the wheel and lost control.

"I heard news that it was in order to avoid a sheep, but I cannot confirm that," he explained.

Ardiles, who came to prominence as a player with Huracán, and former Racing Club star Villa were part of the Argentina side that lifted the 1978 World Cup on home soil.

As two of the first foreign players to star in England, the pair helped open up the domestic league as part of a successful Tottenham side of the early 1980s.
