Cavenaghi returns to River
‘We are confident that club will be glorious again’
Fernando Cavenaghi, who started yesterday his third period as River Plate player, said that he wants to reach the 100 goals mark and become champion with River Plate. He added that he wants to aid the club to recover its glory.
Striker Fernando Cavenaghi said yesterday that one of his best wishes in his second comeback to River is to see the club as glorious as it used to be. “We are confident that River will be glorious again,” he said.
“All of us made a great effort in order to reach an agreement. The heart decided because there is no better situation for a player than being required by the coach and the fans. Money was not important,” said Cavenaghi yesterday at the press conference in which he was presented.
Cavenaghi — a key player in River’s promotion to the flight division after the 2011-2012 season at the National B division — signed the contract with River until June 2015.
When he was asked about the reason for his comeback, he added that he was proud of being considered a River idol. “The most remarkable River idols returned to the club, even Ariel (Ortega) will return,”
Cavenaghi talked about the personal and collective aims for 2014. “The team’s objectives are the most important. We expect to stay in the title contention up to the end. We will try to clinch the title in all the tournament we play,” he said.
“My personal aim is to reach the 100 goals mark. I will be very proud of reaching that goal but the idea is to surpass that number and later score the winner against Boca. I hope it can be done,” he expressed.
