Radicals, Socialist parties sign joint pact for 'plan of government'

Binner and Sanz appear alongside City mayor Mauricio Macri in a recent press conference
The head of the Civic Radical Union (UCR), Ernesto Sanz, and Progressive Broad Front (FAP) leader Hermes Binner have signed a declaration in which the parties agreed to work together, in order to "construct a plan for government" for the 2015 elections.

The heads of the UCR and Socialist Party met in Rosario alongside GEN representative Margarita Stolbizer, Civic Coalition president Pablo Javkin and Free People of the South head Humberto Tumini, who also signed the pact.

"Faced with the gravity of the problems which Argentina is suffering, we confirm our desire to work together in order to find the necessary solutions. Over 80 national legislators show on this occasion the commitment to change that the country needs," the leaders signalled in a joint statement.

The document also called on the national government to "take responsibility for the grave situation of the energy crisis, caused by a lack of competitiveness; growing inflation and the problems related to crime and safety should also not be overlooked."

"We are committed to building a government project alongside civil society, and all those Argentines that believe in democracy and the republic," the missive asserted.

With the signing of the document, UCR and FAP chiefs moved closer to a possible electoral agreement in 2015, which would allow the two blocs to choose a single candidate for president in internal polls.
