New models arrive on a competitive market
The New Year is almost here and it will arrive with great developments for high-speed lovers. This year saw record sales, surpassing the unprecedented mark of 900,000 units. Considering how competitive the Argentine market will be in 2014, carmakers are working full throttle on their new launches.
However, all these new models could yet suffer modifications or cancellations due to the tax hikes being debated in Congress, despite the complaints of manufacturers, import firms and dealerships.
In the automobile sector, the tax will indirectly reach 120 models, and in turn 370 versions.
The rate, which is applied onto the sale price to the dealer (before taxes and commissions) will be applied as follows:
With a rate of 30 percent: a car that used to cost 239,000 pesos will be worth 312,000 pesos.
With a rate of 50 percent: a car that used to cost 385,000 pesos will be worth 505,500 pesos.
In principle, the new taxes would affect nine percent of units sold and 15 percent of revenue.
