Macri declares energy emergency in BA City
Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri said that “the national Government is the main responsible” for the recent energy blackouts, which continue to affect hundreds of families nationwide.
During a press conference held in the "Centro Único de Coordinación y Control", Macri blamed President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration for not releasing "transparent information”, and "leaving the people abandoned".
In addition, he revealed that "we still do not know whether the outages are programmed or not, or whether there is a technical problem or not".
Macri decreed the state of "Energetic Emergency", and informed that a special committee will be formed to assess the issue “as the law states.”
He also urged the executive to put a representative of his Government "in Edesur´s and Edenor´s monitoring operations".
"The power cuts will surely continue throughout the summer, and also the following summers, due to our damaged energy production capacity", Macri warned.
Surrounded by Eugenia Vidal, Rodriguez Larreta and other key members of his administration, he proposed to "coordinated power cuts in order to alleviate the problem."
Macri was supposed to be on vacation till January 6, but he had to call off his holidays because of the outages.
