Camila and Hernán arrive in Buenos Aires

Camila Speziale (L) and Hernán Pérez Orsi wave at friends and Greenpeace activists as they arrive in Argentina''s Ezeiza international airport

Camila Speziale and Hernán Pérez Orsi have arrived in the Ezeiza international airport in Buenos Aires province after being held in Russia for three months. “We will go to Ezeiza (airport) happy and excited to welcome the kids,” Camila’s dad had told reporters as he waited for her 21-year-old daugher to return home.

The Argentineans were welcomed by a group relatives and friends and Greenpeace activists wearing green and white t-shirts. While addressing reporters covering the long-waited arrival, Pérez Orsi praised the diplomatic efforts carried out by Argentina’s embassy and considered Russia’s position “too strong, disproportionate and violent.”

Camila Speziale also talked to media saying their arrest was an “injustice” and promised to continue fighting for her “ideals” and the protection of the Arctic.

Earlier in the week, Russia formally dropped criminal charges against Greenpeace activists arrested in a protest over Arctic oil drilling on Wednesday, under a Kremlin amnesty extended to all 30 who had been facing up to seven years jail if convicted.
