PJ Congress meets and calls for reunification
La Matanza Mayor Fernando Espinoza yesterday had his debut as the Buenos Aires province Justicialist Party chairman, asking maverick Peronists to return to their party.
Peronist leaders also elected José Díaz Bancalari as the party’s Congress chairman. They further ratified their alignment with President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and BA province Governor Daniel Scioli, as was expected.
The party released a statement urging Peronist leaders to gather and also criticized the “appearance of sporadic parties and candidates aimed at winning elections.” Their message was addressed to Sergio Massa, the Renewal Front leader who defeated the president’s candidate in the province, Martín Insaurralde, in the October midterms. Insaurralde, who sought to chair the party before Espinoza was elected, yesterday headed an internal rift with the group led by Lower House Speaker Julián Domínguez, who promoted Díaz Bancalari’s candidacy.
