Rossi accuses Morales of 'institutional irresponsibility' in Army-spionaje row

Defence Minister Agustín Rossi delivers his address at the 19th Annual Conference of the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA)

The defence minister responded to the criticism by opposition MP Gerardo Morales who has accused the Argentine Army of conducting “illegal espionaje activities.” Rossi blasted the Radical Party senator for “institutional irresponsibility.”

“There has a been a violation of minimum protection of the intelligence law. The attorney should have also had more precaution when carrying out the raid,” Rossi stated and explained that “judicial officials and members of the coast guard worked for four hours and the result was absolutely negative.”

On Monday, a raid on the Army headquarters in Buenos Aires City was ordered by a Federal Judge Julián Ercolini to investigate alleged clandestine intelligence operations, following a complaint filed by Senator Morales.

In statements to a radio station, Rossi assured the Ministry of Defence carries out “transparent and honest” activities, rejecting the MP’s claims that the Rossi-led office was spying on politicians and journalists.
