San Lorenzo wants to take its chance
Visits Vélez at 6pm today, while Newell’s hosts Lanús at the same time
The championship can be decided today at 6pm when leader San Lorenzo visits Vélez Sarsfield and Newell’s Old Boys hosts Lanús. San Lorenzo is the only one that depends on itself to clinch the title.
San Lorenzo and Vélez Sarsfield will play for the Initial Tournament today at 6pm at the José Amalfitani stadium in Liniers, although the championship could be decided on Wednesday.
Because at the same time, defending champion Newell’s Old Boys host South American Cup champion Lanús at the Marcelo Bielsa stadium in Rosario.
San Lorenzo leads the standings with 32 points, while Vélez, Newell’s and Lanús share second place with 30. San Lorenzo is the only team which depends on itself to become champion. It lost its chance last round, when it could have clinched the title with a victory over Estudiantes de La Plata, but the team coached by Juan Antonio Pizzi only managed to draw 0-0.
These two championship decider matches were postponed a week because Lanús played the South American Cup final against Ponte Preta of Brazil during the week.
Pizzi will make three changes for today’s game. Mauro Cetto will place suspended Pablo Alvarado, Néstor Ortigoza will play for Enzo Kalinski and Alan Ruiz will take Héctor Villalba’s place.
Meanwhile, Vélez will not count on former Lazio and Inter forward Mauro Zárate, who was shown a red card in the 18th round. Youngster Ramiro Cáseres will take his place, while Lucas Romero will play for Alejandro Cabral, who suffered an injury during the week.
In Rosario, Newell’s and Lanús will be looking for a victory to keep their chances alive to clinch the title. The host, which accumulates seven games without victories, will play with Diego Mateo and Víctor Villaba in the first team instead of Hernán Villalba and Fabián Muñoz, respectively.
Lanús’ team is not confirmed, but it will not count on Lautaro Acosta as the forward has not recovered from an injury yet.
