BA province will secure 'normal' supermarket activity

Buenos Aires province governor Daniel Scioli

Statements by the Buenos Aires province governor come a day after China urged Argentina to “protect the security and interests” of Chinese people living in the South American country, a growing community here that owns many of the supermarkets that were stormed by looters in recent days.

According to Daniel Scioli, his administration has set a “preventive operation” enough to secure supermarkets’ activity following the violent incidents and looting that hit several provinces across the country as a result of a police protest over salary over the past days.

“I can understand demands but there is an issue that goes beyond (any demand) and that is that a police conflict cannot leave people defenceless,” Scioli told reporters today as he called for “social peace and respect” which he considered a “responsibility of political sectors.”

“We will surely spend festivities in peace and calm,” the g4overnor or Buenos Aires province added ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
