Alak promises action against 'organised' looting

Justice Minister Julio Alak has asserted that a wave of lootings across Argentina "are not spontaneous, but organised," and announced that 720 prosecutors in Buenos Aires and the entire federal prosecution service had been called upon to investigate the crimes.

The officials will also identify and file complaints against those members of the police force who did not show up to carry out their duties, as protests continued.

"Public security is an essential service," the government official stated in a press conference held this afternoon.

"No citizen can be deprived of security."

Alak also referred to cases of looting, assuring that "there is not any food-related need" as, according to the minister, "luxury goods and jewellery stores have been robbed."
