Gov't deploys military police, coast guard in Santa Fe

Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich with Santa Fe''s Governor Antonio Bonfatti. (TÉLAM).

The federal government will be deploying 1,500 gendarmes and 250 coast guard officers in the province of Santa Fe following a request by Governor Antonio Bonfatti that aims at strengthening security forces control in the face of police protests that struck Córdoba and Catamarca over the past days.

Police has been reported to be patrolling the streets of Santa Fe normally although some groups launched a picket and set a protest camp in the cities of Rosario and Santa Fe in demand for a wage increase.

Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich held a press conference earlier today ratifying the central government was “monitoring” all conflicts but stressing security and salary disputes are responsibility of each province.
