Experimenta brings the best of indie theatre
Performances, workshops and Fernando Arrabal’s talk Las noches de Heliogábalo
Experimenta 14 Teatro, one of Argentina’s most important international independent theatre festivals, opens today in Rosario, Santa Fe province, and runs through Friday.
Aiming at exchanging ideas, debating, researching and going into detail about drama theory and practice, this annual festival invites actors, directors, students, teachers, researches and theatre lovers from different countries to enjoy a complete week of theatre-related activities.
In its fourteenth edition, Experimenta Teatro — organized by the experimental theatre group El Rayo Misterioso — gathers groups from Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Spain and Peru.
Representatives from Germany, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, the United States, Finland, France, Italy, Mexico, Czech Republic, Romania, Switzerland, Uruguay and Venezuela participated in previous editions.
Celebrated Spanish-French playwright Fernando Arrabal will talk about Las noches de Heliogábalo on Thursday at 6.30pm. Arrabal will receive the prize Orden del Guerrero Teatral, which was awarded in previous years to Roberto “Tito” Cossa, Rubens Correa, Paco Jiménez, Renzo Casali, Idilia Solari, Mario Delgado and Etelvino Vázquez.
The event is supported by the National Theatre Institute, Santa Fe province Innovation and Cultural Office and Rosario Culture Office.
Playwright and director Aldo El-Jatib, in charge of El Rayo said: “Experimenta looks forward to promote the exchange of ideas between professional theatre groups of different nations, which develop in their works innovation, research and aesthetic criteria.”
The performances. Most of the performances are at Teatro del Rayo (Salta 2991), except the ones from Belgium and Spain. The schedule is as follows:
Protocolo Portzess K, directed by Carlos Romagnoli (Rosario), tonight at 7pm.
San Martín vuelve, written and directed by Pablo Felitti (Rosario), tonight at 9pm.
Si c‘est mon frère, by Collectif Alluvion (Belgium), written and directed by Thibault David Géhin and Thomas Henry, at Teatro Municipal La Comedia (Mitre and Ricardone), tomorrow at 9pm.
Dionisos aut, by El Rayo Misterioso (Rosario), directed by El-Jatib, Monday at 9pm.
Medéa - O Evangelio, by Haja Teatro (Brazil), directed by Normando Roberto Santos, Tuesday 7pm.
Paisaje con argonautas, by Kabia-Espacio de Investigación Gaitzerdi (Spain), directed by Borja Ruiz, at Centro Cultural Parque de España (Sarmiento and River Paraná), Tuesday, 9pm.
La nave de la memoria, by the group Cuatrotablas (Peru), directed by Mario Delgado Vásquez, Wednesday at 9pm.
Shock Ilión, by the group El Rayo Misterioso, directed by El-Jatib, Thursday at 9pm.
Other activities. Apart from shows, there are other interesting projects, such as dismantling workshops; the presentation of the book El arte del actor (The Actor’s Art) en el siglo XX by Ruiz; the talk El teatro en Euskalerria (Euskalerria’s Theatre) and El teatro fantasmal (The Ghostly Theatre), El Rayo Misterioso’s methodology and a meeting of theatre festival’s director.
