Opposition demands to cancel Milani’s designation
Members of the Radical Civic Union, UNEN, and the Wide Progressive Front urged the Federal Government to withdraw next week’s voting over the assignation of General César Milani as the new head of the army.
During a recent interview to Hebe de Bonafini from “Mothers of Plaza de Mayo”, Milani expressed his “support” to the Kirchnerite project, and affirmed that “with the help of the mothers, the army is ready to go through all the changes.”
In consequence, a group of opposition parties sent a press release rejecting Milani’s statements, while accusing him of “serving a faction led by the President.”
The lawmakers explained that “the politization of the armed forces was one of the main causes for the dramatic moments that Argentina lived during the 20 century, opening the gates of hell, state terrorism and the use of violence for political purposes.”
In addition, they assured that the General has “serious allegations over his role during the last dictatorship.”
A Senate committee will discuss Milani’s designation next Tuesday at 5.00 pm.
