Barcelona's Martino: No date set for Messi return

Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino has revealed that there is still no definite date set for the return of Lionel Messi to first-team duty, as the Argentine continues his recovery from a muscle tear suffered three weeks ago.

"We hope that he will be ready for the start of 2014, but as we get closer to the date we will see more clearly if he needs a little more time," the trainer explained in today's press conference.

"We cannot confirm when he will be ready. The most important thing is that he makes a complete recovery," he emphasised.

Messi is currently in Argentina to continue his recovery and is expected to return to Barcelona at the start of January.

WIth the Albiceleste captain unavailable Martino suffered his first two defeats at the helm of the Catalan team, going down 2-1 to Ajax in the Champions League before falling to a 1-0 reverse away to Athletic de Bilbao.
