Berni monitored recovery works in tornado-struck Chivicoy

Around 60 families have been left homeless after the tornado that hit the city of Chivilcoy yesterday

Security Secretary Sergio Berni today visited the Buenos Aires province city of Chivilcoy to supervise assistance works carried out by the military police following the tornado that hit the area yesterday.

“The tornado has damaged power cables and we sent more than 300 gendarmes to reinforce a city that is devastated and has no electricity,” the official said.

Working along with the BA province Security Ministry headed by Alejandro Granados, Berni decided to deploy gendarmes as well as the Federal Police GER rescue team to the locality of Marco Paz also affected by yesterday’s strong winds.

Chivilcoy Mayor Aníbal Pitelli said the city has been left “bombarded” though fortunately only 10 people resulted injured. Yesterday’s tornado blew off roofs and broke shop windows. Around 1500 trees fell due to the heavy weather conditions and 60 families lost their homes.
