La Matanza mayor Espinoza's house attacked after attempted robbery

The home of La Matanza mayor Fernando Espinoza was riddled with bullets in the early hours of this morning, after unnamed assailants attempted to rob the Victory Front politician's daughter.

Espinoza confirmed the violent episode through a press statement released through the La Matanza municipality, attributing the act to "insecurity".

"We were victims of criminals, just as thousands of neighbours have been," the official stated.

"Today we were victims of an instance of insecurity and crime, the same as those which plague many residents of [Buenos Aires] province.

"A car tried to intercept the vehicle in which my daughter was arriving and that is when some shots were fired. Fortunately all are ok. That is the most important thing, the criminals got away," Espinoza revealed, denying that the shooting was motivated by a cause other than a botched robbery attempt.
