La Dolfina reaches final
Wins excellent match against La Aguada 18-15
La Dolfina reached the Hurlingham Open final after a close match against La Aguada who surprised their 8-goal higher handicap opponents all through the excellent match which was played in rain yesterday at Palermo.
Playing their best match of the present season, La Dolfina Hope Funds defeated La Aguada ICBC 18-15 to win the A zone and a place in the final of the 120th edition of the HSBC Hurlingham Open. Adolfo Cambiaso‘s squad, which will try to follow to obtain the Triple Crown, will face the winners of today‘s duel between Ellerstina and La Natividad.
In the previous game, without any chances as they had been eliminated, Alegria Sancor Seguros beat Chapaleufu 16-14. The match was boring, with many stoppages as a result of the fouls.
As mentioned, La Dolfina and La Aguada gave a high level show, playing open and fast polo, with changes in the lead and an exciting finich.
La Aguada surprised the Tortugas Open champions by winning the first chukker 3-1, led by Miguel Novillo Astrada, the outstanding man of the match and also the top scorer with 12 goals (11 of them by penalties).
In the second period came the expected reaction by the winners who started to play their well known open and fast team work, taking the lead and increasing it progressively up to the final of the fifth chukker when they were 13-6 ahead and everything seemed to be finished for the losers.
Far from giving up the fight, La Aguada started to narrow the gap. As mentioned, Miguel Novilo Astrada was their playmaker, but his teammates Guillermo Terrera jr. and Facundo Sola helped him in and showed their speed in attack, while Ignatious Du Plessis looked strong in defence, controlling Cambiaso (the best player of the winners) in many passages.
After having been just one goal behind (14-15) in the last period, La Aguada surrendered against the better play and experience of their opponents who were eight goals stronger than them on handicap. Nevertheless, despite the bad weather (the match was played mostly under rain), spectators enjoyed a great polo match.
