Maradona: ‘In four months I’ll reach ten years without drugs’
MILAN — Former Argentina star and national team coach, Diego Armando Maradona, was in Milan yesterday to promote a video series of his life with the Gazzetta dello Sport and said that in four months he will “reach ten years without taking drugs.”
“I made my daughters cry, and my life partner Claudia too. I hurt a lot of people,” said Maradona in a press conference. “It’s a terrible addiction. In four months I will reach ten years without taking drugs.”
He also said that he would like to coach his former club Napoli. He said: “when (Rafa) Benítez leaves I would like to coach Napoli.”
Maradona led Napoli to its only two Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990.
He says “there are coaching changes all over the place, from Spain to Italy to England to Russia, but some people are afraid of me. That’s why I’m not coaching.”
Maradona coached Argentina to the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup and then was in charge of Dubai-based club Al Wasl for one season.
