Riquelme sets up a new record
Playmaker Juan Román Riquelme, with 195 games, became the Boca Juniors’ player with most games played at the Bombonera stadium yesterday when Carlos Bianchi’s side drew 1-1 with Rosario Central.
Riquelme, who made his debut at this stadium on November 10 of 1996 in Boca’ 2-0 victory over Unión, expressed gratitude for the ovation he received from the supporters when he entered to the field.
Two weeks ago, when Boca defeated Quilmes 2-0 at home, Riquelme received a plaquet for tying Silvio Marzolini as the players with most matches played at La Bombonera with 194.
Also yesterday, defender Daniel Díaz received a jersey with the number 100 for playing a hundred matches with Boca.
