Senate debates 2014 Budget
Senators will debate the 2014 Budget bill today, with Kirchnerites and their allies, which account for a majority in the chamber, seeking to pass it as law following its approval in the Lower House on September 26. The opposition has bemoaned veiled cuts in the bill, along with unrealistic growth and inflation forecasts. The Upper House will also seek to pass bills to extend taxes such as the economic emergency law and levies on banking credit and debit.
The Budget bill projects a rate of 6.33 pesos to the US dollar, a commercial trade balance surplus of US$10 billion and economic growth of 6.2 percent. The special session is scheduled to begin at 11am.
